Care instructions for oiled solid wood surfaces

Congratulations on purchasing your SWIFURN table. Tables from our production are carefully and handcrafted unique specimens with a high and long-lasting utility value.

Wood is a natural, living material - each tree has grown uniquely. The individual drawing, the own grain and the uniqueness of each surface characterise the charm of your piece of furniture. In order to keep your oiled solid wood table beautiful at all times, we recommend that you observe the following tips for care and cleaning.

We hope you enjoy your table!

Oiled solid wood surfaces

To prevent the penetration of liquids, the organic pores of the wood are filled with natural oil during the oiling process. The pores are not completely closed, so staining cannot be completely excluded.

In principle, the following must be observed for oiled surfaces: Spilled liquid must be absorbed immediately with a clean, dry cloth or household paper.

Daily cleaning of the wood surface

For everyday care, wiping with a clean, slightly moistened, soft cloth is sufficient. If the surface is more heavily soiled, add the following to the wash
dishwashing detergent (no scouring agent).

The following description applies to natural and whitish oiled surfaces.

Maintenance and renewal of oiled wooden surfaces

In the first few years, we recommend that you treat your table two to three times a year with the enclosed care oil in order to renew the protection of the wooden surface. As the table ages, this treatment can be reduced to once a year.

  1. Clean the table top with a clean, damp cloth and let it dry well. If the surface is heavily soiled, add a small amount of dishwashing detergent (not a scouring agent) to the water.
  2. Put on the enclosed gloves and make sure that the room is well ventilated.
  3. Apply the care oil with the enclosed white fleece finely and evenly in the direction of the wood grain.
  4. Then rub the table top dry with a second clean fleece in strong pulls in the direction of the wood grain until there are no more residues of the oil on the surface.
  5. Allow the surface to dry overnight (approx. 12 hours) at room temperature before use.

Procedure for scratches and stubborn stains

To remove stains and minor scratches from the table surface, we recommend that you proceed as described below. By the way, small stains will get into the wood by themselves over time.

  1. Clean the table top with a clean, damp cloth and let it dry well. If the surface is heavily soiled, add a small amount of dishwashing detergent (not a scouring agent) to the water.
  2. Sand the surface with the enclosed sanding pad until the scratch or stain is no longer visible. For more intensive treatment, some oil can be applied directly to the sanding pad. Always sand the entire wooden tabletop in the direction of the wood grain.
  3. Now repeat steps 2 - 5 of the section "Maintenance and renewal of oiled wooden surfaces".
